Occupational Therapy at Ridgeline Looks Different than Traditional Therapies.
At Ridgeline Therapy the focus is on building the brain and body from the bottom up. This approach starts at the level of the brainstem, the genetic foundation of the nervous system. Here we work at the root cause of developmental and neurological difficulties instead of pursuing symptoms. Better health and emotional well-being starts at the foundation of the central nervous system.
Andrew's focus is working with clients of all ages who experience neurological disorders, concussion, traumatic brain injuries, and delayed pediatric developmental milestones. Here we treat the brain and the body as one and come up with a plan to integrate the two.
Treatment sessions include specific manual therapy techniques and brain-body activities to reach individuals goals.
The MNRI® method is utilized for integrating primitive reflexes using a precise sensory or proprioceptive stimulus to activate the reflex circuit, followed by a motor response of the reflex pattern. Primitive reflexes develop in the brainstem before birth and create the genetically encoded motor programs for neurophysiological development. If this process becomes disrupted due to stress, trauma and/or additional developmental difficulties, these reflexes become retained or dysfunctional inhibiting the neurotypical progress of growth and development. This bottom up work is foundational to improve brain functioning for learning, motor coordination, motor planning, and higher level cognitive skills.
Andrew has completed 400+ hours of classroom education in Reflex Integration Techniques and attended 40 hours of clinical observation at MNRI® Family Conference.
Andrew was born and raised in the Flathead Valley and earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Montana State University. After spending years as an Independent Contractor, Forest Service employee, Salmon Fisherman, and Residential Counselor, Andrew turned his interests back towards healthcare earning his Masters in Occupational Therapy from Husson University in Maine. Since completing his Occupational Therapy degree Andrew has been pursuing additional training in Manual Therapy skills to help restore balance to the nervous system. Andrew has completed training with the Upledger Institute for CranioSacral Therapy, Barral Institute for Visceral Manipulation, Myofacial Release with the John Barnes' Approach, and the Svetlana Masgutova Educational Institute using the MNRI® Method for primitive reflex integration. Andrew is interested in neurodevelopment and re-educating the nervous system to help each individual become empowered though improvement in their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical abilities and independence.
When not in the clinical setting Andrew enjoy’s being out on adventures in the mountains with friends hiking and backpacking, skiing, mountain biking, fly fishing and soaking in some high quality porch time in the sun.
